tippa lees new album cultural ambassador will be released on stones throw, may 20, 2016. available now is the dub version of the album, dub them with reality, mixed by producer tom chasteen (dub club, natural numbers), who has reconfigured the tracks live on the mixing board with echo, reverb and various arcane electronics. the lp covers, in two variations, were screen printed in gold and black by hit & run, with artwork by ellen g. tippa lee was born and raised in kingston, jamaica. he started performing on his fathers sound system as a child, standing up on a beer bottle box to reach the mic. he made his first recordings at king tubbys studio at the age of 12. eventually he teamed up with rappa robert and as a duo had a number of hits including no trouble we, an anthemic statement against police harassment, which was a number one jamaican hit in 1988 and is still played often on jamaican radio. in more recent years he has been based in the us, performing live and releasing his own underground cds.

they say you have your whole life to make your first album, years upon years of growth, learning and experience filtered into one perfect record. your debut is supposed to be the one you labour over, while the follow-up is meant to be served up within spitting distance of the last. well, not if youre london based wild palms. we did that in reverse, explains the bands sardonic, quick-witted frontman lou hill. the first album was just the songs that we would play live, we wrote it really quickly. but this one took ages... five years in fact.
recorded by the band in the same self-built manor house studio where they made their 2011 de-but until spring, the new album live together, eat each other is a lusciously layered offering of hazy experimentalism and off-kilter alt-pop, that follows in the auspicious lineage of beach house, cocteau twins and tv on the radio.

favorite recordings presents this new official album reissue of shine the light of love by googie & tom coppola: a beautiful soul album sublimely produced with a sweet la groove! thomas wilkinson coppola (aka tom coppola) is a pianist and arranger, known for being a principal member of the funky prog-jazz group air (not to be confused with the french duo). he began working as a musician in manhattan in the 1960s, where he met carolyn brooks (aka googie coppola). if they only released one self-titled album with air in 1970, and shine the light of love as a duo in 1980, these two amazing talents have collaborated with artists such as herbie mann, lenny white, flora purim, ray barreto or jeremy steig to name just a few.

according to white material pair galcher lustwerk and alvin aronson, their first collaborative album under the studio ost alias contains a mix of breezy electro, aquatic dub, high speed jit, and shimmering atmospherics. while clearly tongue-in-cheek, it s a fairly accurate description. certainly, there s a fluidity, moodiness and palpable sense of atmosphere at the heart of scenes, which casually drifts between hard-edged club workouts, hazy post-club fare and dreamy, horizontal experiments. it was apparently recorded over a three-year period, during jam sessions at various new york studios. its the spontaneous aspect of its creation that has the biggest effect, and makes the whole thing feel like fleeting snapshots of moments in time.

novoline makes music with equipment that was manufactured in 1988 and 1989, controlled via midi by two atari sts. as a sequencer he is using an algorithmic composition program that is 25 years old. with this program he creates sequences that he modulates live by shifting numbers and settings while recording. the process is improvised and contains a good portion of randomly generated melodies and drums, carefully selected and combined by novoline. the result sounds a little like something between a dark 80s sci-fi soundtrack and an endless marching new beat extended version.
